Stadium Tour Tynecastle

STT 0

Last Friday I went to Tynecastle for the Stadium Tour. One of the reasons for my fascination for Hearts is the ground. So I took this opportunity and it was great to get a view behind the scenes. The Main stand is a hundred years old and shows its age, but what character the stand has. It was designed by Archibald Leitch, my favourite architect. There is not much left of what he designed, so it was great to see it in all its glory. I heard some good stories from the guide. Before an Edinburgh derby they turn the heat up in the away dressing room, which is already an awful place to be. I’ve played non-League for several years, but have never seen such a basic dressing room.

At the entry there is this thing of beauty. Typical for Archibald Leitch, the designer of the Main stand

The Rosebery Charity Cup. Last time it was contested was in 1945. In 1932–33, to mark the tournament's 50th anniversary, the venue for the final, Tynecastle, was draped in primrose and pink, the recognised Rosebery racing colours.

The worst thing that can happen is that you have to play Basel. They give you this awful thing.

Also a lot of nice photos in the room, like this one.
